Initial D Replicas
I recently got into Initial D, an
anime series about mountain pass racing (mostly drifting, but there is
some grip racing in there), and I like it so much I decided to go after
the cars in GT4, matching their looks and performance as best I can.
Watch the episodes: (AnimeSeed has better translations and video quality, but sometimes the episodes will cut out, in which case you can see them at CrunchyRoll. Battle Stages are just compilations of all of the battles up until that point, visually remastered)
- First Stage: CrunchyRoll, AnimeSeed
- Second Stage: CrunchyRoll, AnimeSeed
- Extra Stage: AnimeSeed
- Third Stage: CrunchyRoll, AnimeSeed
- Battle Stage: CrunchyRoll, AnimeSeed
- Fourth Stage: CrunchyRoll, AnimeSeed
- Battle Stage 2: CrunchyRoll, AnimeSeed
- Live-action movie: CrunchyRoll
This is a work-in-progress. The car names given before the description are according to GT4, not the show.

Takumi Fujiwara
==============
Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT-APEX (AE86) '83
Takumi's Trueno AE86 before it gets lightened during his time in Project D. It's actually Takumi's father, Bunta's, car, used for his store's tofu delivery, but Takumi often uses it in drift battles (winning nearly all of them). During its early races, it has a naturally-aspirated DOHC 1.6L with 150hp. When Takumi battles team Emperor's Lan-Evo III, the 86's engine blows before he can finish the race. Bunta has a TRD racing engine modified by Suzuki Motorsports installed, but purposefully leaves the power restrained, leaving Takumi to figure out why on his own. Other upgrades Bunta has done are a reinforced body, modified suspension, and a racing seat to deal with the lateral G-forces.
Both the old and new engines are a Toyota 4AG, but the new one is based on the five-valve engine which was used for the A111 two generations later. It normally features variable valve timing (VVT) that automatically adjusts itself depending on engine speed, but the system was removed in this particular engine to allow it to rev higher. A Group A touring car engine used to compete in the AE101 class of Group A, it is a naturally aspirated 1.6L. De-tuned for street use, it pumps out 240hp at 11,000 rpm.
Takumi learns that with his stock tachometer, he can't rev the engine to its full potential. After that's replaced, along with the addition of oil pressure and water temp gauges, Takumi is able to reach the 11K. Eventually Bunta gives the car to Takumi, with plans to buy a more "practical" car for himself.
Before engine swap:
Wins: Keisuke's FD, Takeshi's R32, Shingo's EG6 (gumtape deathmatch), Mako's Sileighty, Kenta's S14 (rain battle), Ryosuke's FC, Seiji's Evo IV
Losses: Kyoichi's Evo III (not considered an official battle)
After engine swap:
Wins: Wataru's 86, Kyoichi's Evo III, Kai's MR2

When this is first spotted, it defeats Takumi's 86 on Mt. Akina (not an actual battle). We don't find out it's Bunta's until several episodes later. It's actually a Type R Version V (GC8) - atleast according to Wikipedia - but that model is only available in GT4 as a sedan; I just had to opt for the more visually-accurate coupe.

Iketani's drifter. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the skill to beat racers outside of his own team.
Nissan 240SX
Kenji's 2.0L turbo-charged 180SX (SR20). Since the 180 is not available in GT4 (unless you count the rear end of the Sileighty), I had to use the similar-looking 240.
Toyota Corolla Levin GT-APEX (AE86) '83
Itsuki's SOHC 85 Levin. The 'Akina Speedstars' sticker was never taken off the hood of his car, so I assume he's actually a member of the team.
============
Akagi Redsuns
============
This team prides themselves on beating their opponents in their home territories, only losing in Akina to Takumi.
Mazda RX-7 GT-X (FC, J)
Ryosuke Takahashi's turbo-charged Savanna FC3S. Before he formed the Redsuns, he was known as "The White Comet of Akagi", racing autocross and circuits before moving onto the street. The car is usually tuned to atleast 350hp, but for his battle against Takumi, he detuned it to "about 260hp max" as part of his 'fastest racing' plan.
Wins: Kyoichi's Evo III
Losses: Takumi's 86
Mazda RX-7 Type R (FD, J) '91
Keisuke Takahashi's FD3S goes through two stages while in the Redsuns. In the first, it is spec'd at a turbo-charged 350hp and looks stock except for a huge rear spoiler. A later upgrade includes fog lights and a bodykit; possibly a new spoiler.
Wins: Takeshi's R32
Losses: Takumi's 86
Nissan Silvia Q's AERO (S14) '93
Much of Kenta Nakumara's drifting was learned in the rain, so he was confident it would give him the edge in a battle against Takumi's 86 during a downpour. Unfortunately for him, Takumi has also been drifting in the rain since he was in middle school.
Losses: Takumi's 86 (rain battle)
Toyota Supra
This car was spotted with the rest of the team on Mt. Akina; it's never seen racing.

Nissan Silvia (S13)
Takeshi Nakazato's first car. He switched to an R32 after his Silvia drifter was defeated by one - coincidentally (or not), it was also black. Ever since, he's believed grip racing is the quickest way through a mountain pass.
Losses: unknown R32
Nismo Skyline GT-R S-tune (R32) '00
Takeshi's second car, a menacingly black R32, is spec'd at 380hp. The Nismo is one of only two R32s in GT4 with the two rectangular holes in the front bumper; the other being a white-only N1.
Losses: Takumi's 86, Keisuke's FD, Seiji's Evo IV
Honda Civic SiR-II (EG) '93
Shingo Shoji's naturally-aspirated 1.6L EG-6. He tried challenging Takumi in a gumtape deathmatch, disadvantageous to his opponent's FR 86, in hopes to become the Night Kids' leader, but still lost.
Losses: Takumi's 86

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution III GSR '95
Kyoichi Sudo trained himself in autocross (he's a former Alumnus of the Toudou School), and his home mountain pass is a one-way street, so his weakness has always been right-hand turns, where you can't tell if there's oncoming traffic. His car is turbo-charged, with 350hp, and is tuned to use a misfiring system. It achieves both the torque of a turbo and the response of an NA engine at the same time.
Wins: Takumi's 86 (not considered an official battle)
Losses: Ryosuke's FC, Takumi's upgraded 86
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR '96
Seiji Iwaki's car is 280hp, turbo-charged 2.0L.
Wins: a Nissan from team Thunder Fire, Takeshi's R32
Losses: Takumi's 86, Kai's MR2
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution GSR '98
Two of these are spotted parked with the rest of the team. The drivers are unknown.

Mazda RX-7 Type R (FD, J) '91
Keisuke's FD gets a second upgrade a while after Project D was started. Visual upgrades include a spoiler, wide body kit, vented hood, and exposed headlights. It revs up to 8,000 rpm.

Mazda MX-5 Miata (NA) '89
